My name is Melissa English. I’m an oncology Nurse Practitioner and the story I’ll share is that of my special friend, and former work partner.
Imagine what you would do if in the space of a few hours your happy, “healthy”, little girl was diagnosed with cancer. In a few hours space she is admitted to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham and the doctors begin to drip chemotherapy into her veins in an all out effort to save her life. Sure, “cure” is what you want, but right now you just need her to survive the onslaught and hold on to hope for how she will come out on the other side. Imagine you can’t go to work 90% of the time...she’s too fragile now. Same for your husband, who is with you every step of the way. Imagine you have a healthy little brother to think about, because his world was turned upside down too. Now remember ....this is all happening in the brave new world of COVID. Your parents CANT help you. No one really can, even though you know they want to.
This is a true story. This brave little girl is Abby. She is 9. She was diagnosed with leukemia this spring- Tcell ALL. The treatment is brutal, and there is over two years of it. Abby is atrooper ! She is a real life hero ( or heroine) to those that know her. Her parents are Kristen and Thomas Osborne and Dalton is her little brother. The battle is real and everything has changed. There is a new “normal” and no one quite knows what the future will bring.
Dont get me wrong. This is a praying family. A believing family. They have way more than the mustard seed of faith and they KNOW the Lord will provide Their faith is amazing even on the dark days.
I am asking you to pray for this family. Pray for their needs to be met. God knows the needs.
I am also asking that if you are able, and if you feel led, please pray about helping with the financial needs. They have insurance...it’s everything else...and maybe two years of barely being able to work.
I’ll close with this- my friends were reluctant to allow this post, but after prayer and thought they reluctantly agreed. Thank you to all who will read, share and support my friends. God bless you.
