Liffey Sound 96.4FM is a Community radio station based in Ballyowen in Lucan, Co. Dublin. We are a not-for-profit organisation. Like so many other not-for-profit organisations we may not be able to host our traditional fundraisers this year due to the Covid pandemic. So, we came up with the idea of a virtual festival. The station is regulated by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and we secured a second 10 year license in 2016. The station has 2 full-time staff, Mairéad Cullen, Station Manager & Jonathan White, Technical Support Officer. However, the heart of our radio station is our volunteers. Since 2006, Liffey Sound has trained hundreds of volunteers to produce and present their own radio programmes, talk programmes about politics, sport, local Arts events, mental health, LGBTQ topics, book reviews and much more! Volunteers present music programmes across all genres; Pop from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, Rap, Hip-hop, African music, Country & western, Classical, Indian music. The station has provided work experience for countless local TY & third level students. We’ve delivered QQI Level 3 courses in Media expression to give a voice to those who are marginalised in our society. The last course was delivered to people living in Direct Provision. When new volunteers join Liffey Sound, they add to the station’s diversity. There is always a place for people who wish to get involved, in whatever capacity that suits them. Radio is and will continue to be the fabric of Liffey Sound’s ethos, culture and philosophy.
