Hi, I'm Donna and I'm fundraising for my good friend, Sue Penda. You might want to grab a cuppa' and a seat as I'm known to waffle sometimes.

Sue has worked tirelessly in Animal Rescue for as long as I've known her (12 years plus now). I've never known her not be doing something to help somepawdy. Dogs, horses, cats. If they need help, shelter or treatment, she's there for them. She even moved from her family in Hampshire to run a large dog rehoming centre in Cornwall until she retired 5 years ago, where she cared for and rehomed hundreds of dogs.

She is a responsible owner. All her animals are insured but 2021 gave her the most awful run of poor luck. She nursed and lost 3 of her dogs to Cancer in less than 12 months with 2 of them going beyond their insurance cover and Sue funded treatment from savings and selling her vehicle. Then Hufflepuff happened!

Hufflepuff is a little 2 year old Bitzer, fondly known as a Cockieshitpookie. He's a right character, boss to all the bigger dogs and has a vitality for life that is a joy to see.

While Sue was out dealing with a horse that she is fostering, Hufflepuff thought it was a really good idea to eat some plastic tablecloth. Hufflepuff was wrong!

He fell extremely ill. He had 4 internal blockages and severe trauma to his intestines. He needed over 4 hours of major surgery to remove the fabric and several days in Intensive Care. Part of his Duodenum couldn't recover, so he needed another very delicate surgery to remove 10" of his gut and then a third surgery as he developed scar tissue which caused another blockage. In total, Huffle had 3 major surgeries, 20 days in Intensive Care with round the clock nursing and some very specialist drugs. A lot of people would have given up but not Sue. She never once hesitated to authorise his treatment and thanks to her and the vet's "stick-to-it-iveness" he has finally made a full recovery.

The total bill was nearly £12,000 and Hufflepuff's insurance only covers £7000. It will be years before Sue is clear of the remaining debt, using nothing but her state pension to repay the cost. I would dearly love to raise as much as possible to help towards Hufflepuff's vet bill and I would be deeply grateful if you felt able to contribute. All monies will go directly to his veterinary cost.

PS. I would just like to add that Hufflepuff's veterinary team were awesome! He thinks he is jointly owned by all the staff, who all gave much of their time, care and love free of charge. I dread to think what the total bill would have been without their generosity.
