6/30/2023 - Goal #2- Reached: 25k - for transport back home and post-transport procedures

7/27/2023 Update:
Hello again everyone, thank you for your care, thoughts, and prayers. Thankfully, we seem to have gotten through the worst of the worst, but the road is still very long ahead. Only just this week were we able to finally get Yuriy therapy, after weeks of fighting and contesting for the treatment he needs. Even now, today, we are still struggling with uncertainties, especially in dealings with our insurance - of which we have paid our coinsurance fully twice over and still have seen none of the promised reimbursement or benefits of doing so. Nevertheless, we are hopeful and eternally grateful for everyone’s support in our fight, in which Yuriy has already improved notably - physically well and mobile, but struggling from aphasia.

6/30/2023 Update:
Once again, thank you all for your continued care, support, and prayers! Yuriy has been brought home to the USA and is now admitted to the hospital, where he needs to have several procedures done. Afterwards in the coming weeks and months, he will go through extensive physical, cognitive, and speech therapy. As such, we have updated the goal once more, given current progress. We thank you all again for your help, and ask you to continue to share our story where able.

6/29/2023 Update:
Thank you all so very much for all of your support! We have finally finalized medescort and will be able to bring Yuriy back home tomorrow, Friday, June 30th, where he will then be moved to dedicated inpatient care for rehab and therapy. We couldn't have gotten this far without all of your help, and once again want to thank all of you for your continued care and support. We have also updated goal to reflect anticipated costs for the upcoming treatments.

What is the meaning of life?

A question that has been asked for millennia, subjective and unique to each individual, often does not have a clear answer. For Dr. Yuriy Minkevych, MD, a long-time anesthesiologist specializing in open-heart surgeries with over 25 years of experience, it would undoubtedly be saving lives and family. Having emigrated from Ukraine to the United States several years after the collapse of the USSR, Yuriy - my loving father - had to re-earn his medical certificates, licenses, and set up in a foreign country from scratch. Supported by my mother, Iryna, who would work up to 4 jobs at once to pay bills and support us, especially once I came along in '03.

After moving the Tampa, for the past 2.5 years, Dr. Yuriy Minkevych has dedicated himself to his work, enjoying saving lives and performing the difficult surgeries few others could. He would put himself through intense conditions voluntarily, just to support the people he cared about, whether that be his family at home or friends and family abroad in Israel and Ukraine, who struggle through completely different types of hardships, ones where their lives may end at any moment due to an unexpected missile detonation or a molotov cocktail thrown through their window.

On June 5th, 2023, my parents were on a flight to Israel to visit and support our family when Yuriy had an excessive left MCA stroke. The unimaginable for all of us had happened. Even after being sped to a nearby hospital as soon as the aircraft touched the ground, damage had been done. The one who had looked after all of us for decades was now half-paralyzed, fully nonverbal, and lacking most of his memory; forgetting even who I, his only son, was.

After saving so many lives across 25+ years of practice, I implore you to consider donating to Yuriy's medical fund: To help bring back to health a caring doctor, an adored friend, and a loving father. If you or someone you care about has been helped or saved by Dr. Minkevych or someone like him, I urge that you share his story. Every little bit helps, and all donations will go directly to funding Yuriy's treatment, recovery, and safe passage back home once it is deemed safe.

Please help and pray for us to bring my Dad back to himself, back to the person I know and love, and back home to us.

Happy Father's Day, Dad.

Thank you all,
Alec Minkevych
