Lifesaving Transplants for twins Theo and Louis

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Evelyn and I'm raising funds for my two beautiful 5 year old twin nephews, Louis and Theo.
From three weeks of age both Louis and Theo were visiting hospital regularly, an urgent admission to ICU changed everything and would be diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome. A kidney disorder with no cure, that causes the body to excrete too much protein in the urine. What was meant to be a joyous time for this new little family turned into a very stressful, sleepless and long journey.

No one could imagine that almost five years later the boys would have spent hundreds of days in hospital, completed countless surgeries, up to four visits to hospital a week , each, and at one stage 40 syringes of medicine a day. Spending first steps, birthdays and Christmas in hospital. The physical, emotional and financial toll it has taken on their amazing parents, Kath and Jay, is unimaginable to most of us. Not that you would know as they are upbeat and positive 110% of the time!

But fight they did and will continue to do. In 2024 both boys required nightly dialysis, hooked up to dialysis machines for 10 hours a day. Also in 2024 parents Kath and Jay faced their biggest medical challenges yet when Theos first kidney transplant essentially failed after 3-4 months the heartbreaking decision was made to remove it. Unfortunately the challenges began to mount when Louis heart started to struggle with the exhaustion of 5 years of fluid loading, and Theos liver began to show signs of damage. Despite these setbacks, they did not seem to have deterred Kath and Jay from their goals. As usual they took away as many positives as they could and began their own journeys in testing to become live donors for Theo.

A week before Christmas 2024, the phone call we had all been waiting for, a one in a million match was available for Theo. A match surgeons had prepared parents for that might not come, and yet here we were! Six hours of surgery later and the procedure went well. Three weeks later, 5th January 2025 and the call for Louis came through. A Christmas miracle! Louis surgery to date has also gone very well, however his new kidney is not yet working as well as it should. Keeping everyone on tenterhooks.
This gofundme is to raise much needed financial support travel, parking, food, mortgage and unpaid work leave to as they enter this next stage. Kath has had to reduce hours over the last 6 months in order to care for the twins and the next 6 months will be similar as they care for both boys post transplant. The family Is currently staying in Brisbane with daily monitoring of both boys until they are ok to go home.
Kath and Jay would never ask for help but I know there is so many of us out there that want to help in some small way.
