I (Kirsten, Matthew’s wife) have created this page to help raise funds for Matthew’s life-saving medical treatment in Germany.
Matthew is an extraordinary husband, son, brother and friend who means the world to so many people. Anyone who knows him knows his warmth, kindness and quiet strength. Throughout his career, Matthew has dedicated himself to helping others live happier, healthier and more confident lives. Supporting people has always been at the heart of who he is.
Recently, our world was turned upside down when Matthew was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive bile duct cancer called perihilar cholangiocarcinoma. Without a liver transplant, this cancer is sadly considered terminal, with a typical life expectancy of less than 12 months.
Matthew’s NHS doctors fought incredibly hard for him and appealed his case, presenting detailed evidence to the clinical trial board explaining why he should be considered for a transplant. Sadly, despite their efforts, Matthew was not approved due to an unrelated but stable kidney condition.
Not ready to give up hope and on the guidance of experienced liver consultants, we began looking for options elsewhere in Europe. After reviewing Matthew’s scans and medical records, a specialist hospital in Germany has provisionally accepted him for a liver transplant — giving us a chance we feared we might never have.
But this chance comes at a huge financial cost. The full treatment — including the transplant evaluation, surgery itself, and the vital follow-up care — starts at £300,000, and it must be paid before the transplant can go ahead.
This is why we are reaching out for help. Any funds raised will go towards Matthew’s medical treatment in Germany (hospital stay, tests, scans, investigative surgeries, the transplant itself, medications, aftercare, etc).
Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to giving Matthew the opportunity to have the transplant and the future he deserves. If you are able to support in any way, we will be forever grateful. Your kindness truly could help save Matthew’s life.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read Matthew’s story and for being part of the hope we are holding onto.
