Life-Saving Transplant for Kyle

Donation protected
After years of giving his heart and soul to his family, his friends, and countless young athletes, Kyle Klyman needs our help.  A native of Raleigh, NC and a resident of Williamsburg, VA for over 45 years, Kyle recently was approved for a life-saving liver transplant brought about by nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) disease.  He needs your support to continue giving back to others.

Kyle’s liver disease was diagnosed in 2014, landing him in the hospital for the first of many stays.  When his health permitted, he found work to help support his family but he has been unable to work regularly since.  He needs both financial support to help cover the high costs associated with the transplant and anti-rejection medication, as well as your consideration in helping him find a new liver.  If you are blood type O+ or O- and interested in potentially becoming a living donor, please contact the VCU Health Hume-Lee Transplant Center  (804-628-0711).

Kyle moved to Williamsburg in 1974, finding a home and beginning his involvement in the area.  A member of the varsity basketball team at Lafayette High School, he attended Chowan College before returning to Williamsburg to run his family’s government sales business.  After selling KDK & Associates, Kyle remained in his forever community, working for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and immersing himself in coaching youth sports.

Devoting more than 15 years of his time to helping develop young men and women, he was part of the Williamsburg Youth Baseball League coaching staff for the league’s first 3x State Champion and first Regional Champion in the Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth leagues.  He later continued his baseball coaching career with American Legion Post 39.  As a baseball coach, he helped numerous players take the next step in their career, with scores making high school teams and dozens playing collegiately, including three Division I players.

While success on the baseball diamond was frequent, Kyle’s love was on the hardcourt.  He coached youth basketball in Williamsburg for kids of all ages, ranging from 5 to 15.  To this day, his athletes remark about the influence Coach K has had on their lives.

Kyle’s early years in Raleigh and his strong family connections to North Carolina State University instilled a love for the Wolfpack in both his children.  His son Kent, a senior pitcher on the Wolfpack baseball team, and his daughter Ainsley, a former high school field hockey player now a sophomore studying applied nutrition, continue the NCSU tradition for the Klyman clan.  He looks forward to celebrating their graduations with them.

Throughout his life, he has been considered by dozens of people to be their best friend.  That role however, is filled by the love of his life, his wife of 26 years Katherine, a pre-K teacher in the James City County School District.  She has been his rock throughout this ordeal, standing by his side through hospital stays too frequent to count, all while continuing to teach the young people in her charge.

There is much more for this special man to give; please help us give him the opportunity to continue coaching, loving, and living a meaningful life.
