Life-saving surgery in Boston Children’s Hospital

Donation protected
The 10-month-old Oliwier was born with PVS (Pulmonary Vein Stenosis). PVS is a rare disease and without surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital Oliwier has no chance of survival.

The family resides in Poland and needs to cover the full price of surgery performed in the US which is completely outside their financial capabilities. They started fundraising to save their son's life. Initially, the campaign ran only on the Polish platform, collecting $250k but it failed to collect enough to cover the full surgery cost of $630k (!!).

Time is extremely important, as Oliwier heads toward developing lethal Pulmonary Hypertension and expanding the campaign to the USA is a desperate move to save his life.

Let's help baby Oliwier win the race against time!

The US campaign is organized by a family friend, Blazej Osinski, living in Berkeley, California.

This is a message from Oliwier's parents: Monika and Michal:

Our little son is getting weaker day by day… The doctors gave him just weeks to live —that’s how much time we have left to fly to the USA where our son can undergo life-saving surgery. Otherwise, he will develop pulmonary hypertension, which is deadly…

We are begging you from the bottom of our hearts—help us fight for his life!

We know what it’s like to bury a child… We won’t bear it the second time…

Oliver was born in September 2021. We were happy that our older son, Nikodem, finally had siblings! Our dream came true. We hoped everything would stay perfect…

The doctors discovered alarming symptoms right after the delivery—the doctors detected heart murmurs and abnormal blood flow. They performed some control blood tests and examinations which proved that our baby boy had pulmonary artery stenosis. The doctors warned us that it was a severe disease, hard to cure and that we must be prepared for the worst scenario… Those exact words were repeated at every doctor’s appointment…

However, we weren’t ready at all! We felt fear, and we still do. We searched the Internet and international and domestic forums for parents of children with heart defects, the latest publications on research studies…

The same solution popped up on every website. Open-heart surgery. experimental, chemo-like medications. Hospital stays every 4-6 weeks, cardiac catheterization, and angioplasty. However, the risk of blockage of coronary arteries remains high, and a prognosis is uncertain!

After many examinations that left us hopeful and anxious, it turned out that the diagnosis was worse than we had thought! Only one of five arteries works fine, but it might also fail in the future!

Oliver suffers from a single heart-related defect, and the only solution is a complex surgery. Unfortunately, only a few clinics in the World are effective and experienced in treating PVS.

We read about the children with PVS (we found information on five of them in Poland, but not all survived). Their stories and discussions with our doctors suggested we should seek help at Boston Children’s Hospital. Its team of specialists responsible for treating pulmonary vein stenosis has conducted the highest number of effective surgeries for children with PVS in the World! The Boston clinic is where our Oliver has the highest chance to survive!
