My name is Aumbra Braden, and on September 30th, I will be undergoing a major, life-saving surgery—a hysterectomy to remove my enlarged uterus and a fibroid the size of a baseball.

This isn’t optional—it’s necessary to save my life. For months, I’ve been suffering from extreme bleeding, massive blood clots, and crushing fatigue. Last month, I bled so heavily over 21 days that I needed a blood transfusion just to survive. Recently, I hemorrhaged again, and in only two hours, my hemoglobin dropped from 11 to 7. Without this surgery, I am at serious risk of bleeding to death.

Because my doctors must perform the procedure through a C-section incision, recovery will take 6–8 weeks. During this time, I won’t be able to work. I bartend to make ends meet, and even during good weeks, I live paycheck to paycheck. Missing work for hospital visits and transfusions has already left me behind on bills.

I’m also a mother. My 15-year-old daughter, Allyson, lives with me full-time and depends on me every day. Right now, I’m struggling just to keep food on the table for her while preparing for this surgery.

I also have a 20-year-old daughter and 3-year-old granddaughter that live in their own home but depend on my love and support.
