Avrie is my granddaughter. She is a sassy, kind, feisty cat loving 6yo, but when she came down with strep throat over this Christmas vacation, that manifested into something more dangerous, and evil in her body, we now find ourselves dealing with a scary unknown.
On January 2nd Avrie was transported via Trauma team, in an ambulance to Denver. The Flight for Life helicopter was grounded because of weather. She fought low blood pressure on the way, and she is now fighting for her life in ICU at Children’s Hospital. The strep throat she had, has invaded her whole body, and the infectious disease team is keeping an eye out for toxic shock syndrome.
Avrie had surgery yesterday afternoon, getting some of the strep infections in her shoulder, around the muscle and joint and possibly elbow, removed. During the surgery, a shoulder specialist was called in to help, because of the complexity of this rare case. The future outlook is that Avrie may need more surgeries and long-term health care to fight this dangerous disease. Last night, after surgery, they struggled regulating her blood pressure. She is now sedated to keep her calm, so she won’t try to rip out the IV’s and intubation tube. We are far from being out of the woods.
This, as you can imagine, will be a huge financial bourdon on her parents Julia & Alex, as they navigate medical bills. Neither one of them are working during this critical time, so there is lost income that they will need help with as well. There is also a possibility they may need to find a temporary place, or hotel nearby, to stay since home is 2 hours away. This will be another bourdon on them as well.
Please consider helping so we can take some of the financial worry away from her parents so they can focus 100% on the care and love they need to give Avrie while she is in the hospital, and the care she may need in the future.
