COVID19 Healthcare Workers Lifesaving Shield Boxes

Health care workers on the front lines put their lives at risk every day as the COVID-19 virus rages through our hospitals and medical care facilities. We cannot afford to allow these doctors and nurses to become ill and be pulled from the front lines when we need them the most. Their families can't afford for that to happen, either.
One initiative developed in Taiwan has been the use of a see-through box as a protective shield for health care workers performing these intubations and other respiratory procedures. Every time doctors and nurses intubate a COVID-19 patient to put them on a ventilator, they are at risk of being infected by highly contagious airborne particles released from the patient’s airway during the procedure. These particles threaten anyone in proximity to the patient while undergoing intubation. With these protective boxes, physicians can intubate a patient while being shielded from the hazardous airborne particles that might be released as intubation is happening.
We built a prototype box starting with the Taiwan design. With feedback from emergency room physician, Ron Elfenbein, and the support of local community group, Annapolis Moms, the design was refined to ensure the best effectiveness.
In the following video, Dr. Elfenbein demonstrates how the boxes are used and how useful they are in providing protection for the health care personnel intubating patients whose condition has become critical and ventilator support is needed:

Boxes have been distributed to area hospitals and medical facilities. As the virus spreads, requests for more boxes are coming in from Maryland and beyond. This is a not-for-profit initiative and we are racing to beat the rapidly accelerating COVID-19 infection rate. We have a fabricator who will help us produce a larger volume than we can do by hand. We are about to place an order for 50 boxes and need $7500 to pay for them. We just need the funds to make it happen.
