Life-Saving Procedures for Makayla Phillips

On October 6, 2022, my daughter, Makayla Phillips, was in a serious car accident. She and her boyfriend were T-boned while sitting at a stop sign in Frankston, TX. This was a phone call no parent wants to receive about their child. She had to be cut out of the car and airlifted to UT Health Medical Center in Tyler, TX. She suffered a multitude of internal damages: collapsed lung, lacerated spleen, liver, colon, and a ruptured bladder. The way the impact occurred it caused her pelvis to “fold” in half. There is extensive reconstruction they will have to do to rebuild her pelvis. They also discovered that she has what’s called “closed degloving” which means her skin has detached from the muscle tissue underneath from her hip to her knee, about 14 inches. This will require plastic surgery to correct. As of now she has had 5 surgeries and possibly more to come as we move forward. Makayla is 18 years old and a new high school graduate with her whole life ahead of her. This accident will take a year or more to recover from with rehabilitation and therapy not to mention the long term physical and mental effects. God pulling her through this accident is proof that He has something special planned for her life. It is absolutely a miracle that she even survived this traumatic event. Any funds received will applied to her medical care and equipment she will need for rehabilitation and therapy. She will be in a wheel chair for up to a year as she heals which means we will need to install ramp accesses to the house and have handicap equipment for basic hygienic needs.
