Lifesaving Move for Two Disabled Trans People

Hi, my name is Jude, and my fiancé and I need to move.

We love our home here in Mississippi, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to access the care he needs as an intersex man. His physical and mental health is suffering as a result. We have both encountered discrimination in medical settings, which is especially dangerous because we are both disabled and semi-frequently in the hospital. Because of where we live, I've written transition off as an impossibility, despite being out for over 10 years. I have mostly gone back into the closet for our safety, and I don't want this to be the rest of my life.

We have somewhere to go. A friend in Northern New York has a queer, diversified farm with space for us and lots of work. We plan to join forces with them and help carry the farm into the future. We have experience with growing our own crops and having worked with animals, and there are already plans for us to be trained in other aspects. Living there means a decrease in costs, access to farm food, and belonging to a community where we are accepted and appreciated. It also means strengthening the overarching queer farming network, something that’s pretty cool to be a part of.

Once we’re settled at the farm, we will amend his legal papers (which will be easier in New York) we intend to get married. Aside from giving us the peace of mind of making us next of kin, that will also put us in a better position to get health insurance, which we have struggled without. We are both disabled and are supposed to be seeing several specialists, something we haven't been able to afford.

The goal for this covers the move itself, his legal expenses, an emergency fund, and the bare amount of medical costs to ensure we are well enough to travel.

My estimates for the move itself is based on various quotes for the services we expect to need and travel, and having previously organized my fiancé's move from California to Mississippi (with the understanding this is a shorter distance)
