Lifesaving Medical Care for Webbie
Donation protected
Webbie is dying and needs urgent medical care. She has a severe pneumonia in every lobe of her lungs and is hypovolemic (her blood volume was too low so her organs weren’t getting enough oxygen and were at risk of, if not already, shutting down).
Prior to contracting what seems to be Canine Influenza, Webbie in her very short (~6 month) life already was hospitalized and almost died of Parvo, and just 2 days after, she was hospitalized and later miraculously recovered from Distemper (Distemper has an 80% mortality rate in puppies).
Despite fighting for her life for several months, Webbie survived and has a great disposition. She loves water and pools, and she bounces around at daycare. She loves cuddles and affection, and as soon as you get up, she’ll follow you to the next room.
Webbie was just starting to get her weight up (she was severely emaciated from the sicknesses, and Distemper gave her a neurological side-effect of not being able to open her jaw more than a little bit, making it hard for her to eat). With me, Webbie had been eating and things were looking up for her, then she got sick…
Because she’s so frail, the sickness hit her hard- her body has a much more difficult time fighting off the aggressive flu than a normal, healthy dog, and even for a healthy dog, the flu can be deadly.
Despite being told she was okay several times, after days of her refusing food and water and being lethargic, yesterday blood started dripping out of her nose and I knew that I had to take her to the vet.
The vets deemed she was in critical condition and needed to be hospitalized immediately. Before treatment started, they told me it would be very expensive just for the night, and without the foundation backing, I had to assume the medical costs on my own. Given her condition, my love for her, and my belief that she deserves a chance at a happy life after all she’s been through, I was not going to let her die and I assumed the costs without hesitation. For the first night, including her tests and treatment, the bill was $4200 (for conservative and requisite life-saving care). They are projecting she’ll need to stay in the hospital for at least a few days, with each additional day looking like $3600 extra. The cost of her medical care for 3 days is projected at $11,400, and she will likely need care beyond that. I cannot afford her medical care and used the remainder of my student loan for the semester and rent money for December to pay for her first night of care. Even if it’s a financially poor decision, I refuse to let this dog die. She deserves a chance.
Any amount helps- thank you!
