Shortly after the New Year, our father went to his doctor because he was having problems digesting and our mother had an intuition something just wasn't right. He went in for an endoscopy and the results came back that he has stage 3 aggressive cancer in his stomach, and lymph nodes with statistics that are not in his favor. While the diagnosis is heavy, he fully intends on fighting to beat the odds, he is staying extremely positive, and has seen every moment moving forward as a blessing.
They are continuing to run more tests, working with doctors and alternative medicine to find the best treatment so he can fight this nasty disease called cancer. He is getting chemo to shrink the tumor and lymph nodes, but chemo has caused many serious side effects. The test results will reveal if there are other options he may have to help him. There are amazing strides in cancer treatment recently. Immunotherapy treatment, alternative treatments and other potential trials. But many are not covered by insurance and immunotherapy as an example is extremely expensive.
Our father is a fighter and continues celebrating life. Dad is starting this journey with the support of all his friends and family that love him. He fully intends to beat the odds so he is able to go to his grandsons football games, bring his grandsons to their first baseball game, walk his youngest daughter down the aisle, and grow old with his beautiful wife of 40 plus years. We all have stories about Poppa that will make you laugh until your stomach hurts! We created this fund to help our dad and mom with anticipated medical bills and other expenses they may need to navigate through this time. We would also like to use this space where you can communicate with our Dad, share some fun Ozzie stories, and raise his spirits! Laughter is a huge part of who the Anfossi's are, and I would love to include that laughter as part of this journey! These stories will not only bring smiles to our father, but can be a place where Aiden, and Joseph will get to know their Poppa, and how many people he has touched. I don’t think anyone can ever be ready when the CANCER card is played. We are determined to be resilient and to not let it change who we are.
Many of you have expressed wanting to donate or help in some way. If this is the avenue you choose to help, thank you. And thank you for all the love,
With Love from your daughters,
Rebecca Anfossi & Alicia Anfossi Shapira.
