In the close-knit community of Washington, Pennsylvania, a remarkable woman named Eileen McCormick embarked on a journey to devote her life to care for others. Eileen’s story is one of strength, resilience, and the power of love and support. Eileen's journey began at Chartiers Houston High School, where she graduated with pride in 1975. Her passion for learning and her desire to make a difference in the world led her to pursue a career in nursing. With unwavering determination, she enrolled at the prestigious Duquesne School of Nursing, where she graduated magna cum laude in 1992. Growing up in Washington, PA, Eileen understood the importance of community and the value of lending a helping hand. After completing her education, she returned to her hometown and began her nursing career. Over the course of 31 years, Eileen worked in various units, including the liver transplant unit, the emergency room, and home care. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Eileen's commitment to her profession led her to the frontlines. She fearlessly joined the newly created COVID ICU in New Orleans, where she provided critical care to those battling the virus. As the pandemic continued to ravage communities, her unwavering dedication took her to the Brooklyn Veterans Hospital. There, she worked tirelessly in the COVID ICU, providing life-saving care to those in need. Her resilience and strength shone through as she faced the challenges of the pandemic head-on. In 2023, after a long and fulfilling career, Eileen made the decision to retire. She looked forward to spending quality time with her loving husband, children, and numerous grandchildren. However, life had a different plan for her. Shortly after retiring, Eileen started experiencing back pain. Concerned, she sought medical attention and, on January 23rd, 2024, she received devastating news. Eileen was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that had metastasized to her spine and liver. Despite the devastating diagnosis, she remained determined to fight for her life. She is scheduled for surgery and is embarking on a long and challenging road to recovery. The strength and resilience she had shown throughout her nursing career now became her guiding light as she faced this new battle. As Eileen fights for her life, her family has created a GoFundMe campaign to support her in this difficult journey. The funds raised will help alleviate the financial burden of medical expenses and provide her with the resources she needs to focus on her health and well-being. It is a small way for us to give back to a woman who has given so much to others. Eileen's story is a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the indomitable human spirit. Let us come together as a community to support Eileen in her time of need, just as she has supported and cared for others throughout her life. Together, we can make a difference and provide her with the strength and resources she needs to continue fighting for her life and cherishing the precious moments with her loved ones.
