Lifelong Caregiver Needs Your Support

On Thanksgiving Day, 11/22/24, Sandy and Bill enjoyed a joyful short reunion. Bill has returned to respite care. Sandy has had the second surgery and currently has minimal mobility but is so grateful for your continued support.

Dear Family, Friends, and Compassionate Supporters,
I’ve known Sandra Jakubik Lent as a friend and co-worker at Eckland Family Dental and cherished our friendship for 29 years. I may not have met you all, but I know Sandy and Bill have extended family and friends who reside in all four corners of the U.S. and in between. I am 3,000 miles away and want to be supportive. I hope you will join me by contributing financially to this GoFundMe site. Please share the GoFundMe link with Sandy and Bill’s friends. You may know friends at Eckland Family Dental, Sandy’s co-workers at Dentistry of Sarasota, and their friends and family who may not see this request online and can then send the link via your email, Twitter or community or church forums

Lifelong Caregiver Needs Your Support
Sandra Jakubik Lent

Sandy reminds me of a Hallmark card. She is beautiful on the outside, thoughtful, sincere, and has a huge caring heart. Sandy brings a joyful outlook to our friendships, sympathy, celebration, prayers, and words of kindness. She is also the ultimate caregiver. Her move to Florida was motivated by being nearer to her immediate family. Along with the joy of those relationships and the Florida sunshine, she cared for her family members while still working in the dental field and supporting herself and her family. Some of the family has passed away, and others have relocated cross-state and cross-country.

Now BOTH Sandy and Bill Need Your Assistance.

Timing is everything, and timing a surgery is never perfect when your life is full of responsibility. Sandy’s first surgery on Tuesday, October 25th, repaired her Achilles Tendon and restructured a twisted ankle. Sandy has been in the hospital for almost two weeks while doctors monitor other post-op health conditions of concern. However, until these health concerns stabilize, she won’t be having her second surgery on her foot or transferred to another facility where she will have physical therapy and regain her mobility. The specialized treatments, services, two surgeries, diagnostic tests, PT assisted living, and office visits will leave her with many out-of-pocket expenses. The years of Bill's medical care have already substantially drained the family's resources.
Sandy’s eight weeks of PT and recovery will significantly impede her ability to provide round-the-clock care for her husband, Bill, a disabled Vietnam Veteran. Currently, the V.A. only covers a TOTAL of 11 HOURS of home care, 5.5 hours per day, TWO times PER WEEK.

This GoFundMe request will provide her with financial assistance and help cover the cost of medical services and the additional help they will need in the upcoming weeks. Initially, her forever friends, Tina, John and Doreen, who have traveled across the state and country, will support and monitor her care and Bill’s care. We all know Sandy well enough to know she would walk barefoot on glass to care for Bill if necessary. We want to avoid that temptation. After Sandy’s second surgery, the expectation is to move Sandy from the hospital to assisted living and facilitate Bill’s move from homecare to assisted living. It will be comforting to both Sandy and Bill to be at the same facility while Sandy is recovering and having needed PT, and Bill will receive the 24 hours of care he will need in the coming months. However, this will be an enormous expense that was not planned.
If money can’t buy happiness, it will go a long way to reduce the stress of mounting healthcare costs and providing the needed care for Bill. Your generous support will give Sandy peace of mind and speed her recovery. Any amount will make a difference – $25, $50, $100 or more would be immensely appreciated. Thank you all for your support.

Please remember to share this link to Sandy's GoFundMe page with their friends and family.

Thank you for your generosity and support
