Life Kitchen - Cancer Cookery Class

Life Kitchen offers free cookery classes across the UK for people living with cancer, focusing on delicious food and giving joy to people at difficult times. I founded this charity initiative in memory of my mother, Krista, who, at just 47, lost her battle against small-cell lung cancer four years ago.

About 80% of people undergoing chemotherapy find that the treatment robs them of their ability to taste. This not only makes food unpalatable for them, it takes away one of the pleasures of life. That was my mum’s experience, and it’s why I’ve set out on this journey to help other people living with cancer.

Sue Perkins, the TV presenter and former Great British Bake Off star, has hosted three of our five classes so far, and I’m proud to announce that she is coming onboard with me as a patron and permanent co-host of Life Kitchen

Sue and I now need your help to formalise Life Kitchen as a registered charity, and to take our classes and our message to as many people as possible all over the country.

(Me and my mother, Krista.)

Following a fantastic response from the public, press and well-known faces including Nigella Lawson and Jamie Oliver, in February we launched our first classes at Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s world-famous River Cottage in Devon.

Since then, we've hosted more than 100 other guests at venues including the Jamie Oliver Cookery School in central London, Daylesford farm in Gloucestershire and At the Kitchen in Manchester.

Our next class is in Exeter and Somerset. (Email [email redacted].uk for more information.

After the tremendous response to our launch of Life Kitchen as a charity initiative, we need YOUR help to move to the next stage.

Professor Barry Smith of the University of London, a world authority in taste and the senses, has come onboard and is working with us to undertake pioneering research for our classes so that people living with cancer can experience the comfort and delight of flavour again.

We are developing new recipes based on this exciting, innovative research and want to take our recipes and techniques across Britain in our FREE classes.

We need your support:

* To cover staff, recipe development and build upon the work we've already achieved;

* To collaborate with world-leading cancer, health and food organisations;

* To publish recipe books, produce YouTube videos and fund our classes at independent cookery schools across the UK to bring Life Kitchen to the widest possible audience.

(Guests enjoying Life Kitchen, Daylesford)

Now, it is make-or-break for Life Kitchen.

Your donation will not only to pay for world-leading research that will form the basis of our future classes, but will also enable us to bring Life Kitchen to the people who need it most, all over Britain, for free.

Please give whatever you can so we can achieve these goals and make a real difference to the lives of people living with cancer and their friends, families and loved ones.

Thank you so much.
