Life-giving Operations: Crohns complications
Dear precious friends and family,
Thank you for being here, reading this and giving your precious time during this medical challenge. I do need your support; especially prayer.
After battling with Crohn’s for 25 years, with 42 operations, I’ve suffered a severe complication. I ended up in the ER and after a week in hospital it was determined I needed surgery. However, the GI surgeons declined to operate, stating it was too high risk, and sent me home with no treatment, yet still very ill. Fortunately, there is a Robotic Laparoscopic Specialist in Dallas who was willing to do what’s needed. Dr. John Delumba did surgery #20 and #21 for me during a similar critical juncture a decade ago. His expertise extended my life then and we are praying it will again.
As relieved as I am to have found a way forward, a bug financial demand is present. My insurance will not cover any of the medical expenses associated and all other financial long-term options pursued were not available. But a few doctors, as well as the hospital, are working with me. I need to take care of all service fees upfront, the day of the operation as such to receive special, arranged rates.
Dr. Delumba will need to perform 2 separate operations 5 days apart, to remove, rebuild and replace life-threatening organ damage and blockages in multiple areas in the abdomen from Crohns complications.
I will be in Dallas (Sunday Aug. 29th onward) with my daughter, Gabi, shortly thereafter we start pre-op. Should all go as planned, we will operate September 3rd and again on the 8th. Due to a Covid surge we may not be allowed to stay overnight unless it’s an emergency. Regardless, we move forward and trust things will be well.
It is a humbling experience, knowing the pandemic may find you in difficulty as well. But I was encouraged to reach out and let people close know. While quietly isolating came to mind, I do know that in the past my most valued moments have come when walking through trails with others we care about!
I am grateful for your enduring care and for the prayers. Your compassion has be resounding! And of course, I will be appreciative if financial support comes as well. I believe we will ALL be encouraged in our faith and in our love, no matter the challenge or outcome! At least we did it together and with all our hearts.
With MUCH appreciation - humbly.
Mary
