Kasia Coleman is an amazing woman. She cares deeply for her family and friends, she works hard, she makes beautiful paintings and has an infectious humor.
She is also incredibly sick. For several years she’s lived with advanced endometriosis (called DIE or Deeply Infiltrating Endometriosis, stage 4). Endometriosis is a very misunderstood disease: few doctors know how to diagnose, much less treat endometriosis. Along with a long list of symptoms, ranging from severe nausea and vomiting to consistent sciatica. Kasia is ruled by her body’s intense pain: she might have to stay in bed for days, she might not be able to dress or bathe herself from pain. Periods leave her literally crying and gasping in pain for hours or even days. It can cause excruciating pain and lasting damage to vital organs, nerves and tissue.
Kasia needs surgery only a few doctors in the USA can perform and it's not covered by insurance.
But Kasia is the strongest, most determined person I know and she has fought against this disease on many fronts. Instead of despairing from the horrific pain, Kasia has read research papers, joined forums, and talked to leading doctors so that she can fully advocate for herself and others. She is a fighting force for women living with endometriosis. However the disease is taking over her life, and she needs help.
This surgery means so much to her and to the fight against endometriosis. Getting this surgery means taking back independence for Kasia. It means she can do simple things like leave her bed when she wants to, bathe by herself, and have the energy to paint and sell her artwork.
