Life-Changing Medical and Educational Supplies for Ghana

Donation protected
After volunteering in Ghana for 2 weeks this July in Busua Public School and Dixcove Hospital where I had the most amazing time of my life, I along with Bella Paine have decided to run a half marathon to raise money for the local hospital, school and community.

In the beautiful village of Busua, the Busua Public School teaches bright, aspiring children to learn the SHS curriculum. However, they lack supplies to note down what they are learning to consolidate their work. They also lack the textbooks to learn the content of their own accord.

Shoes, school uniform, early treatment malaria tablets and sanitary products for menstrual hygiene are a few other necessities which are quite expensive for the locals to buy but are needed for school and everyday life.

The Dixcove Hospital is also in need of IV lines, gloves, cannulas, saline solution and privacy curtains. The doctors do their very best to save lives, but they can only do so much with their limited supplies.

I believe that EVERYONE deserves access to equal healthcare and education.

I have therefore decided to run the Robin Hood Half Marathon in Nottingham with a friend I met out in Ghana in the hope of raising money to help finance textbooks, note pads, pens, uniform, bags, uniform, shoes, hospital supplies as well as items of clothing and sanitary products depending on the need of the children of Busua. I believe the school donations would be very influential in improving the children’s chances in higher education, leading onto higher earning jobs. This would increase the variety of careers available to them with an education to back them up. The hospital donations will also help save many lives in the Hospital of Dixcove.

I and or Bella would personally go out to Ghana in my Gap year after working for a few months prior to this to earn enough money to self-fund my trip (n.b. the money raise by my run will ALL go directly to the local community). I would ensure that the money is spent appropriately and that actual items are given to the children rather than simply handed over as cash donations and I will personally go to the market with a local friend to get local prices to make the most out of the money raised.

If you would like to donate, it would be greatly appreciated!

For reference, what your donations would get the children:

£50 - whole class of 30 students would get a notebook and some pens/pencils

£20 – (year long package) pair of sandals, 10 note books and few pens and pencils

£10 – a few of note books, some pens, some tampons

£10 - school uniform

£5 - 4 note books, 2 pencils

£5 - a pair of sandals and a note book

£1.5 per person for treatment for early cases of malaria which can save lives

£15 can provide treatment for 10 people with new cases of malaria

If you have preferences on how your money is spent e.g for Dixcove hospital or Busua Public School, then feel free to add a comment to your donation to let me know.
