Support Lily's Endometriosis Excision Surgery
Donation protected
Hi all,
I'm Shi-won, and I'm launching this fundraiser for Lily Pan. She needs $16,000 to cover her out-of-network laparoscopic excision haptic surgery, which treats her Class III endometriosis and adenomyosis. As you can see, this is not a small cost—and any donation will help tremendously!
What is Endometriosis?
Endometriosis is a disease where tissue similar to the inner lining of the uterus is found outside of where it should be, resulting in inflammation, painful menstrual cycles, and even infertility. As of now, endometriosis is reported to affect 1 in 10 women who often don’t get a proper diagnosis for a minimum of seven to ten years. They’re often misdiagnosed with chronic IBS or other gastrointestinal diseases, which delays treatment and can lead to more health difficulties in the future.
There is also currently no cure.
What is Adenomyosis?
Adenomyosis is another pelvic disease where the inner lining of the uterus grows into the uterine wall. Because this tissue grows and sheds with each menstrual cycle, people often suffer from pelvic pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, and painful sexual intercourse.
Lily’s Endo and Adeno Journey
At 20 years old, Lily started to experience painful periods to the point where she could not manage the severity of her cramps. This led her to rely on ibuprofen, which eventually proved to be ineffective.
After a bout with COVID in January 2022, Lily began to have more debilitating symptoms that impacted her everyday life. From constant nausea to excruciating gastrointestinal pain, she assumed—and doctors confirmed— that her condition was due to the lingering aftereffects of COVID.
However, getting a correct diagnosis took three emergency room visits, five+ gastrointestinal specialist visits, two urgent care visits, one endoscopy, one colonoscopy, and more than ten doctor consults.
Lily was fortunate enough to get connected to Dr. Masahide Kanayama, a leading endo specialist in New York City. With years of experience in medical and surgical gynecology and over 7,000+ successful treated cases, Dr. Kanayama was able to perform a successful laparoscopic haptic excision procedure that excised endometrial tissue from Lily's body. This removed her adenomyosis with uterus reconstruction, all without harming the uterus.
The surgery is life-changing and will likely alleviate many of her current symptoms. Lily is currently unable to work and is recovering from her procedure, with some days being more difficult than others. Still, she is amazingly resilient and deeply rooted in her faith—and she believes that community, prayer, and tangible action will help her with her uphill battle and uplift others who walk through similar health journeys.
Any funds received will go into covering Lily’s surgery and additional costs, including (but not limited to) post-op out-of-network visits and physical therapy. We thank you in advance for your generosity—and for reading Lily’s story.
