Will & Grace 2.0

This is Will and Grace. The Northern California version 2.0. And Will's service dog Andy.

They are homeless and unable to get housing through any agency. They have tried. Will for 3 years. Grace for one and a half.

Will and Grace are both disabled and need therapy and surgeries. Here is why:

 - Grace had a vascular lacunar stroke in November 2016. Other than the diagnosis of "stroke" no other diagnosis or acknowledgment of disabilities was performed. She would be fine, she just needed to see a shrink for her eating disorder and depression. It was a minor stroke based on their Neurologist that Grace finally saw after 15 months.  Fast forward to last year. UCSF Neurovascular Department diagnosed her as having a history of Vascular Lacunar Ischemia resulting in a VS Stroke, which would be rare for her age at the time (51) and it was far from minor. She was also diagnosed with a Traumatic Brain Injury caused by the type of stroke. There are associated disabilities with this kind of stroke - none of which were ever considered by her previous health provider. She needs continued speech and cognitive therapy but is limited to service providers and limited appointments without having to pay. She is now covered by Medicare as she was approved for full SSI last April. She had four appointments last year, as there was also physical therapy as she still has left leg issues due to the stroke.  These are still needed due to cognitive failure and retraining using neuroplasticity.

- Grace needs eye surgery due to Retinopathy before she becomes blind. The barrier to her receiving the procedure is the recovery, only a few days, but twice over a few weeks. Furthermore, she cannot receive an updated vision prescription until she has had the surgery and her eyes have been stable for 3-6 months.  She is severely nearsighted, it is rated as "legally blind" and she hasn't had a new prescription since 2012.  She is wearing prescription sunglasses as that is the most current prescription and cannot wear other lenses as the have become cloudy due to the protective coating failing. Contact lenses do work, and she has worn those since she age 16, but can only wear them occasionally due to their age and calcium build up. Will drives most of the time as she cannot she obstacles quickly enough. And she doesn't feel safe.

- Grace needs carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists, the right being extremely chronic.  Her hand and forearm go numb driving or sleeping on her left side.  She had lost dexterity and has some residual stroke issues when she writes and is right-handed.  She doesn't recognize her own signature.

- Will was illegally forced out of the home he shared with his mother, as his sibling lied and had a shady lawyer help him take the Executorship away from Will 4 years after their mother's death from pancreatic cancer. Will took care of his mother in her later years as she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and had moved back home at her request (late 90's).  Though it led to his financial ruin, his mother, Dorothy, was his dearest friend and loving companion. He made sure her wishes were granted and she did not go to a "home". Will supplemented her income. His brother did not. His brother had never contributed or paid a cent towards Dorothy's home or lifestyle, even as his girlfriend moved in at 16 or until they moved out at 30. Or even her funeral.  But Will was handed an Illegal Detainer as there was no agreement between the two of them. His mother's request superseded that. The home has stood empty since Will was removed. His brother is just 22 months younger than Will.

- Will has prostate cancer and is currently undergoing further testing.  His brother was aware of this when he had Will removed from the home. We are hopeful that it has not progressed, and thankfully there is no evidence of that.  However, Will has severe lower back issues and needs spinal surgery, which will require 6 months of recovery and additional treatment. He cannot recover sleeping in a 20-year old car.  At the current rate of deterioration, and due to other injuries and inability to exercise, they are worried that he will have a fall and injure it further and become paralyzed.

- Will is a recovering alcoholic and the events of the last 4 years have been very traumatizing and difficult for him. With Gracie's help, he has gone through Detox twice and every day is a battle, but they are each other's support.  Will was finally able to secure an attorney to pursue a case against his brother.

- Grace has PTSD and severe anxiety due to her previous life with her adopted mother and the events of the past 3+ years. Friends who failed her and were unaware of her disability and turned their backs on her, while blaming her for her inability to not be selfish and consider them. A medical system in a neighboring County that committed malpractice and malfeasance, had her 5150'd adding to her PTSD, misdiagnosing or ignoring her medical issues such as incontinence due to the type of stroke (she was going through menopause and should do Keggle's), blaming her regurgitation and vomiting on an eating disorder, not the two ulcers in her stomach as she has pernicious anemia. She has been looking for an attorney to sue them, but no one has offered without a charge of $2500-$5000 retainer for an expert's opinion.  This upsets her further, which is very unhealthy for her as she has severe anxiety and here mind goes into "Chaos" and becomes tired and withdrawn and her disability and cognitive function become more pronounced/worse.

- Both Will and Grace are diabetics, and Will has cardiac issues (low blood pressure and a cardiac event/possible heart attack  11/2019) requiring them both to be on a diabetic conscious diet with Will also on a heart-healthy diet. This does noes not happen in the homeless community. Homeless Services provide cost-conscious meals, I.E. Cheap, and carb-loaded.  Grace tries to eat fruit daily and consumes produce whenever possible.  Will does to a degree, but earlier this week, Grace had to take him to the ER as his blood sugar had dropped to 40. He is very lucky that he did not go into a diabetic coma. Grace is aware of the issue, as she suffers from low blood sugar regularly, and it drops to 80 in her case, and she knows what to do! They need a home with a kitchen so Grace can make healthy meals as she once did.

When their life has returned to normal, Grace wants to be an advocate for the homeless community (she already has!) and start a charity for Divert Catalyst(s) Affirming Compassion, as well as a novelist.  To follow their life, and Grace directly, they can be found via the following. By the way, Will is a little camera shy and doesn't use computers. He has Grace for that.
