Life Savings Lost in Fire

My name is Laura and I am fundraising for Sonia Platero a resident of Richmond, CA. On the night of February 24th, Sonia lost her life savings when her hotel in Guatemala burned down.

She immigrated to the United States in 1995 and worked for 28 years as a house cleaner and nanny, putting all the money she saved into the hotel. With the hotel she had the dream of creating security and employment for her family, however it was open less than a year before it burned down.

Unlike in the United States, there is no insurance in Guatemala, meaning that she has lost everything she worked for. This is extremely devastating for her and her family, and any contributions are greatly appreciated.
