Hello All,
My name is Shena and I am the cat mom of Bodhi. With a heart heavy with worry I come to you today with a plea for assistance. Bodhi, my sweet boy, is facing a dire health challenge, and I find myself in need of support to ensure he receives the care and treatment he so desperately needs and deserves.
Bodhi is an absolutely amazing, sweet, silly and easy going lovebug. He loves people (both children & adults), cats and dogs. He is approximately 11 months old - he was trapped as a stray in an industrial area when he was about 6 months old. He started off as a scared and shy lil squishy meatball who was frightened and caught off guard by kisses. But oh, how he quickly transformed into a total sweetheart, full of vim & vigor and a zest for life. He is a beacon of joy, a testament to resilience and a constant source of unconditional love. He also figured out that he actually loves kisses and when being snuggled he turns into a drooly purr machine. Bodhi has woven himself deeply into the fabric of my life and I can't imagine him not being here.
Sadly, our lives took an unexpected and shattering turn on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024. I woke up to find Bodhi in distress. His left eye was bulging and cloudy in colour. It looked extremely uncomfortable. Bodhi was also not himself - lethargic and uninterested in his environment. A trip to the vet revealed a devastating diagnosis: Bodhi is battling Dry/Ocular Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a cruel disease that threatens to steal his life.
FIP arises from a mutation in the feline enteric coronavirus (FECV) predominantly impacting cats under 2 years old. This mutation results in an intense inflammatory response where infected white blood cells (macrophages) spread throughout the body and proves uniformly fatal if not treated.
The road ahead is daunting. Treatment for FIP is newer in Canada, not easily accessible and very costly. But for Bodhi, I would move mountains. For him, I would sacrifice everything, as he deserves every chance to fight for his life. Treatment is for a minimum of 3 months. It consists of intensive medications, regular bloodwork and vigilant monitoring.
Thankfully, I was able to secure 6 emergency doses of medication on the night of April 24th, 2024, so I was able to start treatment right away. It is important to start medication as soon as possible as cats with FIP can decline rapidly.
At this time, the treatment is going to cost a minimum of $2,500. Update, as of May 1st, 2024, the goal was raised to $3,500 due to the unforeseen enucleation surgery and surrounding treatment needed for his left eye. I am currently in a big transitional period. In this time of transition and uncertainty, I humbly reach out to you, dear family, friends and kind souls, for your generosity and support. Your contribution, no matter how small, holds the power to save Bodhi's life. With your help, we can give him the chance to live the long and happy life he so deserves.
Thank you for taking the time to read Bodhi's story and for considering our plea. Your support means more than words can express.
With heartfelt gratitude and unwavering hope,
Shena & Bodhi ❤️
