Manuel is 14 years old and he is our nephew. His family is of very low income. He is in his first year of high school and is an excellent student with a 4.0 GPA with a dream of being a doctor.

He started with pain in his back. His mom took him to the doctor and they told her it was nothing major and that he had hurt himself from playing sports. He continued with that pain until one day they had to take him to the emergency room. There, the doctors, when checking him out, saw that he had a severe infection in his left lung. Now, he needs a very delicate operation. Manuelito's problem is that his left lung is trapped in the chest cavity of the ribs due to the strong infection. That infection caused scarring on his lung and he is only breathing with a little piece of his left lung. That infection can continue advancing if he does not undergo the operation. Due to this result, his right lung is now infected with pneumonia. And according to the doctor's instructions, he was not able to be given food. As a result, Manuelito suffered decompensation due to malnutrition and dehydration. With the surgery, the doctors say they will try to save a bit of his lung or they will probably have to remove it all.

This surgery is very risky for the reason that his left lung is very close to the heart. When Manuelito is in surgery he will be intubated for 36-48 hours and his recovery has to be extremely careful. Right now they are preparing him for surgery with blood and plasma transfusions so that he can withstand that operation.

The need to help him with his operation is because in the hospital where he is being treated, they do not have the resources or the doctors for such a delicate operation and he has to be transferred to a private hospital. La vida de un niño está en un alto riesgo si no recibe una operación de pulmón en la ciudad de Mexicali, Baja California. Manuel tiene 14 años y es nuestro sobrino. Su familia es de muy bajos recursos. Él está en primer año de preparatoria y es un excelente estudiante con un promedio de 9.9 y u sueno es ser doctor.

Él empezó con un dolor en la espalada. Su mamá lo llevo al doctor y le dijeron que no era nada y que se había lastimado por estar jugando deportes. El continuo con ese dolor hasta que un día lo tuvieron que llevar a emergencias. Ahí, los doctores, al revisarlo, miraron que tenía una fuerte infección en su pulmón izquierdo. Ahora, él necesita una operación que es muy delicada. El problema de Manuelito, es que su pulmón izquierdo está atrapado en la cavidad toraxica de las costillas por una fuerte infección. Esa infección le hizo en su pulmón cicatrizaciones y él solo respira con un pedacito de su pulmón izquierdo. Esa infección puede seguir avanzando si a él no se le practica la operación. Por este resultado, su pulmón derecho le dio infección con neumonía. Y por indicaciones de los médico, no se le estaba dando alimentos y Manuelito obtuvo una descompensación por desnutrición y deshidratación. Con la cirugía, los doctores dicen que trataran de salvarle un pedacito de su pulmón o probablemente se lo tengan que remover todo.

Esta cirugía es muy riesgosa por la razón que su pulmón izquierdo está muy cerca del corazón. Cuando Manuelito esté en cirugía va a ser intubado de 36-48 horas y su recuperación tiene que ser con extremos cuidados. Ahorita lo están preparando a él para la cirugía con transfusiones de sangre y plasma para que él pueda resistir esa operación.

La necesidad de ayudarlo para su operación es porque en el hospital donde está haciendo atendido, no tienen los recursos ni los médicos para una operación tan delicada y tiene que estar trasladado a un hospital privado.
