Hello My name is Helen I am 65 years and I am a sole mother and carer of a disabled son. Luke is an adult and we have both had domestic violence in our lives.
We had to escape from our residence to the Women's Shelter. It has left us both physically and mentally traumatised. It has left Luke frightened to leave the house. Unfortunately another trauma a few years ago has made Luke housebound. He has put on a lot of weight and is now obese. He has a BMI of 44. One of the major reasons for being housebound is feels he is an object of pity and people start at him. He uses food
as a crutch. Now he eats all the time.
There is a newer treatment that involves swallowing a balloon type device which expands in the stomach and therefore limits food intake. Gastric Sleeve is not an option as it is over twenty thousand dollars
Luke's Mind dog (companion dog) Mary Lou Lou has helped decrease Luke's severe asthma by one/eighth which is huge. We do not spend as much time in the hospital.
I have never asked for help before and have cared for Luke's needs all his life but I now need help to pay for this life saving medical treatment. Please help if you can. Kind regards Helen.
