Scooter was found under our friends porch about a month ago. After seeing pictures of him we immediately fell in love and adopted him right away. It was exhausting— bottle feeding and caring for him was a full time job, but was and is worth it. He’s a cuddler and a sweetheart. His favorite place to be is curled up under a chin, or even sitting on his dads forehead in the mornings. When he’s not cuddling, he’s hopping, bouncing, and leaping around trying to keep up with us in the apartment. He’s very talkative and loves listening and singing along to the piano. We love him. At 6-7 weeks of age, Scooter is gravely ill. A couple weeks of vomiting and lethargy had been explained away by food sensitivities, but X-rays recently revealed he has air built up in his intestines. To our horror, vets were speechless and had never seen kittens in this condition. He was rushed to the emergency vet by his dad where he was put in the ICU. He is somewhat stable and comfortable now, but his condition is getting worse by the day. Surgery is most likely the only option for him. All of his diagnoses and treatment options have unfurled within the past 48 hours, and we are at a loss for words.
My boyfriend and I are graduate students at Vanderbilt University. We knew adopting pets comes with financial costs, but we never could have imagined being this inundated with vet bills like this. We are trying our best to cover what we can, and would be immensely grateful for any donations.
Thank you for reading Scooter’s story, he is a brave little man and with your help we would love to see him get back to his bouncy self!
