As you know-Pi is my family. From the moment I found her at a garage sale 14 years ago- we’ve had a special bond. She’s overcome many difficulties from battling coyotes to getting rammed by an angry buck to her biggest challenge ever- beating cancer.
On Wednesday, she became acutely ill -she was shaking and she felt very hot so I took her to the emergency room at Angell in Boston. From their diagnostic testing they determined that she had a tumor in her intestinal area that ruptured which caused her to become septic -explaining the fever and the infection. The options they gave me that night were emergency surgery which was very risky or euthanasia. They said there was a 50-50 chance of survival with the surgery. They were mostly worried that her cancer was back and that they may open her up and just see that it’s everywhere or that the surgery wouldn’t hold because of the compromised tissue due to the cancer. So it was risky but on the other hand everything else looked normal. And she has a history of incredible recovery. I couldn’t put her to sleep...so I flipped the coin and the most amazing thing happened. When they opened her up the picture was very different than what they had thought. There was no cancer-there was no ruptured tumor. There was a big hole in her small intestine that caused bacteria to leak out and cause the sepsis. It was still life-saving surgery but it was a much better picture than we had thought! The cost was over $7,000.00
and her life is worth it! I was able to apply for care credit which is specifically for medical situations and vet care -although the interest rate is extremely high -I think it’s like 26%. so although I feel quite uncomfortable doing this, I’m reaching out and asking if anyone would be willing to contribute to the cost. And remember Pi hasn’tjust been this little troublemaker getting injured and chasing coyotes but she’s also been foster mother to so many puppies and dogs that have moved on to be adopted and I could never have done it without her. She has taught them so many lessons. Thanks for considering. Pi thanks you too! ❤️♥️☮️
