Life Saving surgery for Oswaldo Toro

In November 2022, my family received the devastating diagnosis of my dad's unresectable stage III pancreatic cancer, and our world crumbled. You never think it will be your family, chosen to fight this battle, until it is. Despite the challenges, we have found light and strength in our family and faith in God. Currently, my dad has undergone 13 rounds of one of the most aggressive chemotherapies worldwide, along with 25 sessions of radiation. My mom and my dads resilience has been the most inspiring thing I’ve ever witnessed.
However, the latest scan revealed that the tumor has not responded to the chemotherapy, tightly gripping the superior mesenteric arteries, rendering it inoperable and unresectable. After over a year with chemotherapy being the only option, we discovered a surgery that has the potential of helping my dad- Irreversible Electroporation (IRE). Only a handful of doctors in the country perform this surgery, and after dozens of calls with doctors all over the country, we secured an appointment with one of the most respected IRE specialists.
IRE offers hope by providing my dad with less dependence on chemotherapy, more time, and relief from cancer symptoms. This surgery could weaken the tumor, making it a more manageable threat. The urgency lies in scheduling the surgery immediately after my dad's last round of chemotherapy, which is imminent- the surgery is being scheduled in the next month. During our meeting with the doctor, I asked what this surgery would do for my dad- he shared that the surgery could make it possible for my dad to walk my sister and I down the aisle one day.
Unfortunately, insurance has not approved coverage for this procedure. My parents, sister, and I are unable to bear the financial burden of the surgery and associated costs. The surgery, 5-7 days in hospital, hotel stay, flights, over two weeks in another state, eating, medicine used prior- during & after, totals to 60,000 dollars. My dad, a remarkable father and husband, is dedicated to healing and overcoming this challenge.
Every dollar contributes to giving my dad more time and a chance for healing- I am confident that my dad will beat this.

Nunca crees que será tu familia la elegida para librar esta batalla, hasta que lo es. A pesar de los desafíos, hemos encontrado luz y fuerza en nuestra familia y fe en Dios. Actualmente, mi papá ha pasado por 13 rondas de una de las quimioterapias más agresivas a nivel mundial, junto con 25 sesiones de radiación. La resistencia de mi mamá y mi papá ha sido lo más inspirador que he presenciado.
Sin embargo, la última exploración reveló que el tumor no ha respondido a la quimioterapia, aferrándose fuertemente a las arterias mesentéricas superiores, volviéndo irresecible.
