Life-Saving Surgery for Mak Bajric in Washington D.C.
Story:
My name is Belma Herceg, and I am auntie of a brave little boy named Mak. Since birth, Mak has been fighting Hirschsprung’s Disease, a severe disorder that has made a normal life impossible for him.
Mak’s journey has been incredibly hard. Since his first major surgery in Serbia (June 2022), he has required seven additional surgeries and multiple long hospital stays. Despite treatments in both Serbia and at the Kannerklinik in Luxembourg, his condition remains life-threatening.
The Current Situation:
The current situation is complex, with a high-output ileostomy (stoma on the small intestine), anal fistulization, and recurrent infections that have led to complete anal stenosis. His doctors are gravely concerned about his ability to gain nutrition and the risk of his ileostomy prolapsing. His life is at risk unless his condition is properly managed and the underlying anatomic obstruction is corrected.
Our Final Hope: Dr. Levitt at Children’s National Hospital
We have been given a chance to save Mak. Dr. Levitt, a world-renowned specialist at Children’s National Hospital in Washington D.C., is ready to perform the complex surgery Mak needs to finally stool successfully and live without a stoma.
The Goal: $136,000
The total cost for the specialized surgery, post-operative care, and medical stay in the United States is $136,000. This is a sum our family cannot reach alone. As a familyI we are fighting for Mak’s future, but for this final, crucial step, we need your help.
Every donation and every share brings us closer to saving Mak’s life. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your humanity and support.
With deep gratitude,
Mak‘s family
