Life saving surgery for Benji, 6 year old rescued street dog

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Chantelle. This is really difficult for me as I am not comfortable asking for money, but our beloved Benji has been through a trauma and I need help.

He showed no signs of pain until last Tuesday morning when he could not sit or stand, he was panting and pacing with his back dipped low. We took him to the vet and they told us he had a prolapsed intervertebral disc, within the hour he was paralysed from the waist down. We took him to the hospital for an MRI and they discovered that he had several discs in his lower lumber region prolapsed.

They operated and found an insane amount of disc material outside of his spine. His surgery went well, but he still has a long way to go. We have pulled all our money together, but we are still short by around £3000.

He has slipped several discs in his lower lumbar region and has had to have life saving surgery.

The surgery has been successful however he has not regained sensation or use of his back half as yet, therefore his hospital stay has had to be extended.

He currently has a catheter fitted and is in need of physiotherapy to be able to come home.

As you know, Veterinary bills are really high and even though I have received financial support from the RVC for part of it, I still have a few thousand pounds to find.

Benji is the most loving companion you could ever meet. He is only 6 years old and is a strong and healthy dog, he deserves to live

We found Benji 6 years ago this weekend in Portugal, living on the streets as a stray. He was approximately 6 months old and terrified, starving and alone.

It took him 5 days to approach us and when he finally did, he slept on our doorstep for the duration of our holiday.

21 days later he was living with us in the UK. I knew that I couldn't leave him to that terrible fate and that we had to bring him home with us.

Our life has been so blessed to have him in it. He is the definition of joy. We have 3 dogs, 1 cat and a house rabbit. He is so gentle and loving with all of them, he is the glue that brings them all together. He is the sweetest boy.

If you could spare any money to help me contribute towards his recovery, it would be gratefully appreciated.

Always thankful,

Benji, Chantelle, Maya, Angel, Shabba, Rasta and Navy.
