Life Saving Surgery for Baby Callum McLagan
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Suzanne Sly and I am a good friend of Erin McLagan (nee Conroy) and Logie McLagan. I am fundraising for their beautiful baby boy, Callum.
Callum was born 6 weeks premature at Royal Columbian Hospital on September 20th at 7:09pm. He was 4 pounds 12 ounces.
Through newborn screening, it was determined that Callum has SCID (Severe Combined Immuno Deficiency) and he has an extremely rare condition called congenital athymia which means he was born without a thymus gland. Without a thymus gland, Callum does not produce T cells that build immunity and protect him from any infection.
Callum requires life saving transplant surgery and this specific type of surgery only happens at two (that's right two) hospitals in the entire world. Erin, Logie and Callum will be traveling in the very near future to London, England for this surgery. They will need to live in London before, during and after the surgery until Callum is recovered enough to travel home. At minimum, they will be in England a month.
This fundraiser is to help cover the costs of traveling to London and living in London for the duration of Callum's medical treatment and surgery.
Any help you could give this wonderful family would be very much appreciated.
