Hello,
My name is Mia and I need help covering the cost of a life saving surgery to remove a tumour on my dog Loki's liver.
I first met Loki and her previous owner while working at the non-profit supportive housing building they lived in. Sadly, Loki's owner passed away on Christmas Day in December of 2023. Because Loki was an overweight dog with health issues, her future after her previous owner's passing was uncertain. I took her in as a foster and decided to make her a permanent member of my family soon after. I just knew she was meant to come home with me.
Since then, Loki has lost 20 pounds, overcame pancreatitis, and no longer limps thanks to surgery on her hind left leg. None of her veterinary costs were covered by pet insurance as her preexisting conditions made it impossible to find a plan I could afford. Despite the financial strain it put on me, I never hesitated to provide Loki the veterinary care she needed. It was so rewarding to watch her overcome adversity and live a happy life despite losing her first owner.
In January 2026, Loki was hospitalized for two days and the vet discovered a tumour on the left side of her liver. Loki was referred to Canada West Veterinary Specialists who recommended surgery to remove the tumour and prevent the spread of cancer. Since the tumour is on the edge of her liver away from critical blood vessels, the surgery is likely to be successful and significantly extend Loki's life. According to the vet, liver tumours in dogs are typically malignant but removing them can eliminate the need for chemotherapy.
Loki and I have developed a special bond throughout our time together. I love watching her gobble down treats, roll around on the grass, and lay in the sun. While the news of her tumour was devastating, I am grateful that surgery resulting in a long and healthy life is even an option.
The surgery is scheduled for March 12th, and will cost between $8521 and $9961 depending on how complex it is. I would greatly appreciate any support to cover the cost of saving my dog's life.
Thank you,
Mia Abbas
