Unfortunately on July 31 St, 2020 our beloved father, friend, and favorite DJ suffered multiple strokes causing damage to his heart and brain. He had been complaining about leg pains the day prior but we assumed it was nothing too serious. On Friday unfortunately his body slowly started to go numb, we were barely able to hold him upright so we had no choice but to call an ambulance. Once they arrived they informed us that he was having a stroke. That night at the hospital felt like the longest ever, not knowing how severe the damage was or what was even happening. I just remember being on the phone with him not knowing if it was the last moment we would get to speak to him- so we were getting all of our last messages in- telling him how much we all loved him, how proud we are of him, how strong he is, and that he is our hero. I will always remember how intense that moment was- the sound of him crying with the hospital equipment sounding off in the background. It was terrible to say the very least.
They proceeded to take a CT-SCAN that came up inconclusive, so they said they would do an MRI. We waited a few hours then they said it was too late and they would do it in the morning. So they left him unmedicated technically still having a stroke throughout the entire night until the following day where we had to practically fight to have an MRI done because it was the weekend and he wasn't what you would consider "STAT" so they wanted him to wait until Monday. We understood an MRI is not a diagnosis but we felt strongly it was one step closer to a treatment plan.
The day after they gave him a cardiovascular test and concluded he has a small hole in his heart as well as brain damage as a result of the stroke, all due to a blood clot in his leg. As you can imagine we are all beyond devastated, this man is our hero, the head of our house hold, and our protector. All of the years he has cared so lovingly for us and now we are left to care for him. As you might expect he is very delicate and the chances of him suffering from another stroke are very high. He was recommended acute rehab which means "live in" for a minimum of 3 months because the entire left side of his body is paralyzed. He can not see from his left eye nor can he swallow easily, he will need constant care and attention. He is only 56 years old so to say this was a complete shock is an understatement. Besides all of the obvious hardships my mother now has to take on all of the household expenses that used to be split between two incomes plus medical and rehabilitation bills.
She has to nurture her best friend back to health, a man who she shared her first kiss with at only 15 years old.
If you can find it in your heart to make a small donation, ANYTHING is appreciated and I am certain God will repay you. We appreciate you taking the time to hear Hugo's story, may God bless you and your loved ones. Hold them tight because you really never know.
