Life Saving PPE for SBH Health Care Workers

With the COVID-19 virus spreading at an increasing rate, the hospital systems are overwhelmed and are running out of funds for testing supplies. Healthcare workers are on the front lines day and night and are in dire need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in order to protect their safety and reduce the spread of the virus. The Gothamist recently published an article, “St. Barnabas Hospital's ER Is A ‘War Zone’ As Bronx Coronavirus Hospitalization Rates Soar,” featuring our very own Dr. Patti, and detailed a mere glimpse of how drastic the situation is becoming in the Bronx. Not only are the doctors being affected, but the majority of residents are at increased risk of exposure to COVID-19 due to the current working conditions.

We, the Class Representatives of the CUNY School of Medicine/Sophie Davis Student Government, have taken note that many medical students are doing their best to help out their local hospitals, and we would like to get actively involved in aiding our physicians and other healthcare workers at SBH, a Level One Trauma Center, to safely deal with this crisis.  SBH is our major teaching hospital and very close to the hearts of the students, faculty, alumni, and community. 

We would like to embark on a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for PPE, testing supplies, ventilators, hazard pay, and any other needs for SBH. With the help of students, faculty, alumni, and parents, we believe that we can really make a difference through our contributions.
