Help Dash Get the Life He Deserves

Meet Dash, a beautiful 14 week old dachshund puppy currently in foster care with Midlands Cleft Rescue. Dash should be worrying about toys and cuddles but instead, he’s fighting for his life.

Dash has been diagnosed with an intrahepatic liver shunt, a serious congenital condition. This means that an abnormal blood vessel inside his liver is allowing blood to bypass the liver instead of being filtered by it. The liver’s job is to remove toxins from the bloodstream and when it can’t do this properly, toxins build up and travel to the brain, causing severe neurological symptoms.

Sadly, Dash’s symptoms became frighteningly clear after his vaccination:
- seizures
- unable to hold himself up
- walking only in circles
- toppling over and unable to get back up
- unable to eat or drink on his own
- bumping into everything

An ultrasound today confirmed the intrahepatic liver shunt, giving us answers but also a difficult road ahead.

Dash is currently being supported with lactulose to help remove toxins from his body, oralade every two hours for hydration, and a carefully prepared home cooked diet. While this helps manage symptoms, it is not a cure.

To give Dash a real chance at a normal, happy life, he urgently needs:
- a CT scan to map the shunt (approximately £2,500)
- specialist liver shunt surgery (estimated £3,000–£4,000)

This surgery offers Dash the possibility of growing up healthy, pain free, and able to do all the puppy things he’s currently missing out on.

Midlands Cleft Rescue is doing everything they can for Dash, but the costs are overwhelming for a rescue to manage alone. Every donation, no matter how small, brings Dash one step closer to the treatment he desperately needs.

If you can donate, share, or simply keep Dash in your thoughts, it truly means the world. You are not just helping to fund a scan or surgery…you are giving a tiny puppy the chance at a future.

Thank you for supporting Dash
