Blog for further details on Jordan's condition
I have created this page on behalf of my partner Jordan Wilson to try and ease the pressure on her whilst going through a traumatic time with her health, with possibly donations or any information or contacts you may have that could lead us in the right direction towards any help in the U.K.
I have been traveling with my partner Jordan Wilson for over a year and whilst we have been travelling New Zealand she has noticed a lump growing inside her nose which grew rapidly.
After initially being diagnosed as a polyp, surgery was scheduled to remove the lump but when the surgeon was removing it found that the lump was not what it was first thought to be.
After a week of sleepless nights we got the biopsy results back and was devastated to find that the lump in Jordan’s nose was actually a tumour.
The tumour is growing backwards through her head and has already eroded part of her skull, so as you can imagine we were keen to get this removed as early as possible.
Jordan, being from USA had to rely on the $250,000 insurance cover she had taken out for her travels to New Zealand, but after weeks of communications and repeated phone calls had been advised from the hospital that she was medically ok to travel and the insurance assured that if she was medically safe to travel then the trip home at Christmas to meet my family which had been planned for months would not effect her claim.
(We have all the correspondence in writing)
However, after a couple of days in england and enjoying a much deserved break Jordan received an email from the insurance company saying because she has been healthy enough to travel that they would not adjust the original estimated cap to remove a polyp to the new diagnosis for testing and removing of the tumour, leaving her having to worry about finding in excess of $22,000nzd. We have been told this fee is very likely to rise.
As if this was not enough of a blow, she then received emails from both a public hospital and New Zealand immigration that because she had temporarily left the country she may find difficulty getting back in to New Zealand if the insurance are not going to cover the full amount.
As Jordan has been out of the USA for 3 years traveling, she does not have insurance back home so even returning home to recover is not an option.
I have attached some images of the MRI showing the front and top scan of Jordan’s head to show the size of the tumour which is still growing inside her head at an alarming rate.
This is a time sensitive case as Jordan May not be let back into New Zealand and no cover back home so we are in England and have hit a brick wall with what our options are.
In an attempt to find the solution in the UK, we have tried to access the NHS system. I know the people that work within the NHS are fantastic, but as a system that was set up 70 years ago to treat anybody free of charge at the point of entry, we have had a very challenging time accessing real help.
NHS 111, directed us to our local doctor, who referred us to a private clinic for a consultation, We were charged £200 for a consultation only to be told that the doctor should not have referred us there as Jordan requires specialist help that they could not provide. Furious, we went to our local hospital who once again turned us away.
Eventually, we were directed to the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford and were placed in the system. Relieved but very aware we were still at the beginning of the journey, we have recently been told that as Jordan is American not only will we have to pay for her treatment but it is required up front before any treatment can commence.
Both Jordan and I are extremely anxious and are desperate for some good news that can give us a glimmer of hope.
I thank you in advance for any donations, information or contacts you can help with, and ask that you could take the time out to share this page to help as much as we can.
We want to raise the funds required to cover the cost of the operation and the response so far has been overwhelming, however we need more help. Individuals and companies, please consider sponsoring Jordan and please, please keep the donations coming in.
Our next step visit to the specialists is fast approaching and it seems every time we dig deeper into the NHS system the price of saving Jordan gets higher. We have just found out that she will be charged 1 and a half times more than the normal cost of the operation just for being a foreigner. I am very confused about the founding statement of the NHS.
