Greetings to our USA supporters! My name is Dr. Kristen Decina and I am raising money to purchase life- saving medical equipment for our animal hospital here in Palau.

 

I am hoping, with the help of donations, to purchase second-hand, refurbished CBC and Chemistry machines. These machines assess blood cell numbers and organ function; tests that mean the difference between life and death for sick pets.

 

Our Story: Palau, an island nation located in the Western Pacific, is very far from home for me- about 9,000 miles away from New Jersey. I moved here in 2020 for a temporary veterinary contract, and while working here, I heard and saw firsthand an outpouring of requests for more access to animal care. I came across many owners feeling helpless when their pets were critically ill, and many animals in need of specialized emergency care. I felt like it was my calling to stay and figure a way to provide care for animals in need.

 

My partner and I spent the better part of a year, many nights and weekends, along with lots of blood, sweat, and tears, working on opening the hospital. In January of 2022, "Osebelel a Charm" (translating to, "Saving Animals", in Palauan language) officially opened.  Our hospital provides preventative care, but especially high-level, emergency, critical care, and hospitalization services to the sickest of animals for low/fair cost.

 

I have spent my professional career traveling and offering veterinary care and services in the US, Caribbean, Central America, and the Pacific, and hope to continue doing something so meaningful and permanent here in Palau.
