Hello family and friends,
This gofundme is for our family member and friend John Drexel. In June of 2017 John was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Neuroendocrine Carcinoma. It's so rare that only 2% of people get this type of cancer. He had a tumor at the head of his pancreas where the bile duct goes into the intestine. John had to have what they call a Whipple operation done. The Whipple procedure is the most common type of surgery for pancreatic cancer. It is used to remove tumors that are confined to the head, or right portion, of the pancreas. It is also called pancreatoduodenectomy. The surgeon removes the head of the pancreas, part of the small intestine, the lower half of the bile duct, the surrounding lymph nodes, the gallbladder, and part of the stomach.
John was in the hospital for 2 months and had complications from the surgery. Needless to say the recovery was excruciatingand hope for a full recovery was his goal. Because of the unexpected medical issues, high deductable and some medical bills not covered by insurance he could no longer work and bills piled up and he had to move back in with his parents. Within a year or so things were looking up and getting better, John was healing and getting back to his life as best he could. Taking care of his mom and dad like he had before and even back to working part time.
Within a year or so Things were looking up John was healing and was getting back his life again and taking care of his mom and dad and family like he also had done also was getting healthy enough to work just as things were looking up a check up revealed the cancer had came back and more aggressive thatn before. The problem is that john had addressed concerns of pain within the year he was healing many doctors told him it was the healing process but john knew something wasn’t right With countless doctor visits and research for other opinions he finally got a doctor to listen with further testing they determined that the cancer came back.
In January of this year a check up and tests revealed that the cancer had come back, was now in his liver, lung and in lymph nodes. The tumors are inoperable and radiation is not an option. He will be starting chemotherapy in hopes that it will shrink the tumors and put it in remission. John will also be making trips to Sloan Kettering in NYC periodically and will need help to offset the cost of making the trip medical expenses from the chemo procedures not paid by his insurance.
For those of you who don't know John , he is a quiet, private and humble person who would help anyone who was in need of help, family, friends and strangers. He is 47 yrs old and has always been a great cousin, uncle, brother, son and friend. Even as he is sick now he still has the energy to take care of his parents when they need him and help anyone who may need help.. If you can lets help John have piece of mind and give him the support he needs like he would do for everyone and give him a chance to get the treatment he needs to beat this cancer and put it in remission.
Even if you can’t donate please leave a supportive message and please please share.
Thank you so much!!
