MIKE'S FIGHT AGAINST CANCER

My husband Mike Fair is one of the most strong, loving, compassionate & amazing men that I have ever known! Many of you may know Mike from  highschool. He was a graduate of Daniel Boone Highschool in the class of 1978. Mike's family, my family & many of you that know & love him understand the fierce fight he has endured against cancer over the last 8 years.
Mike worked very hard all of his life & held much pride in his work with Kilby Chassis Designs & as a professional brick Mason, who successfully established his own business. Due to his cancer diagnosis & the many complications that followed, Mike was unable to work full time again. We have managed & are truly blessed beyond measure. I am truly blessed to be this wonderful man's wife & soul mate. He would do anything for anyone in time of need & loves all of his friends & family dearly. He is also extremely proud & humble, so asking for help during a difficult time is extremely difficult for him & I both.

Cancer Diagnosis and treatment

My husband Mike was diagnosed with stage 4 Aggressive Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma, (Diffused Large B Cell) which is a blood cancer & is a cancer that attacks the lymphatic system) He was diagnosed on December 23rd of 2010.
He underwent surgery to remove a tumor the size of a softball, where the surgeons also had to remove much of his small & large intestines. He went thru 7 months of chemotherapy & remained in remission until his cancer relapsed again in February of 2016.

Following his diagnosis of stage 4 cancer once again, the recommended treatment was five sessions of chemotherapy in the hospital followed by an Autologous Stem Cell Transplant at Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, TN. This was extremely rough for Mike as he developed an fection that gained momentum in his intestinal tract after the Stem Cell Infusion. He was treated with great care in the Critical Care Tower at Vanderbilt for 2 weeks & finally recovered.  We returned home after a month long stay in Nashville. Two weeks later we returned for another Pet Scan & the results showed he was still in full remission.

Mike & I made many trips back to Vanderbilt in the following year for follow up appointments & CT Scans. He remained in remission until August of 2018. Mike's Pet Scan on August the 21st revealed  that his cancer had relapsed again with a vengeance & was spreading everywhere.
The prognosis was grim, but his Oncologist told Mike & I to stay positive & not to give up hope as their is a newly FDA approved Car-T Cell Immuno Therapy at Vanderbilt that can possibly save Mike's life.
The Dr's at Vanderbilt have told us that there is a 50% chance this will keep his cancer in remission, but has the potential to help Mike & many others live for many more years. With this said, we are not concentrating on statistics as all of the patients treated at Vanderbilt are still in remission after a year or more.
Mike is an almighty fighter & we are so blessed to have God, family & friends here to support us thru this in love & prayer. We will be leaving home for Vanderbilt around December 1st or several days before, which is when his treatment will begin.

What the funds will be used for

Our goal of this fund raiser is to allow my husband the ability to heal thru this treatment process as comfortable & as stress free as possible. This will truly help ease the financial pressure on Mike & I both as I am his main caregiver & I am the one who navigates us thru this entire process, as before with his Stem Cell Transplant.
We made it thru the Stem Cell Transplant, which was rough financially, but we managed to get back on our feet. The funds for this campaign will help us make it thru the
Car-T Cell Immuno Therapy treatment.
The funds will also help us with  additional medical bills/out of pocket costs towards his Medicare Insurance, travel, lodging & groceries for our apartment for a month in Nashville.
This will also help as well with the many follow up appointments & scans to come in the next year at Vanderbilt.

As we move forward with this new treatment procedure to save Mike's life, any gift to help us will be greatly appreciated &  will mean more to us than you will ever know! We realize that the holidays are nearing & that many of you & or family members are struggling with illnesses & or other yourselves.
With this said, Your thoughts and prayers are what mean the world to us & we are wishing everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving & Happy Holidays.

Thank you & we love you all,
Wynn & Mike
