"Life is Better When You're Dancing"
- Karl Patton
On June 1, we lost a dear friend and member of Ottawa's underground dance community after his life-long battle against Sickle Cell Disease.
Diagnosed at the age of two, Karl Patton fought a difficult battle against his illness, supported by the endless strength of his family members. Despite his health struggles, Karl never sought pity or sympathy. Instead, he was an immensely compassionate individual, the first to lend a sympathetic ear, offer gentle words of encouragement or put a smile on the face of his loved ones.
Karl channeled much of his creative energy through his work in graphic design. His passion and talent led him to fearlessly depart the stability of corporate life to pursue his dream and launch his own company, Minimist Design. In both his professional and personal life, Karl's genuine spirit naturally drew in every person he met. His presence undefinable. His genuine acceptance of others was one of his most endearing qualities. He made a lasting impression on everyone he met, the positive energy he exuded was palpable. He touched the lives of so many people in a beautiful way, whether through a simple conversation or sharing a moment on the dancefloor, Karl had a way of letting you know he was present in the moment with you.
This page has been created to commemorate Karl’s life and the tremendous impact he had on our community. In these challenging times, we are seeking donations to support the Patton family in covering funeral expenses. Although we understand that many of you are unable to contribute financially, any support is greatly appreciated, no matter how big or small. Our community has strength in numbers and a small gesture will go a long way towards alleviating the financial burden faced by Karl’s family.
We sincerely thank you for your gift to his family, in Karl's memory.
