The crew, Andy (Flight Paramedic) and Michael (Flight Nurse), have been well cared for and are having their medical, mental, and social needs met. Care and support have been at a superior level by local EMS, fire, and police in Macon County (NC), medical treatment at Mission Medical Center, clinicians, and administrators. The crew was even met by our brothers and sisters in air medical services upon their initial arrival at the hospital by MAMA crew members. Our LIFE FORCE family, MedTrans partners, GMR partners, Erlanger Health systems, and countless others have provided immense support. To this point, most of the expenses have been covered without any complications and the crew is home, working on recovery. Our pilot, a close friend and brother in service, has stated a strong desire to focus this effort on medical crew members and wished to not be included.
My name is William "Billy" Thompson. I am a crew member of Life Force 6 that was not involved in the accident but know this crew well. I know many people have asked how they could help. After some discussion with the crew members involved, they agreed that there are costs that are out of pocket associated with this incident. They have not asked for any additional support as this is outside of their nature. However, some burdens cannot be assisted by the current means available. This includes, but is not limited to fuel, lodging, and food associated with medical appointments. This GoFundMe is intended to assist with those costs. The consideration for this special request is that they live in rural areas, at a significant distance from the care needed. They may need to stay overnight in a hotel for some of these appointments. There is time lost at work by their spouses to help provide care at home, along with the complex and compounding burdens this places on families. These out-of-pocket expenses are immediate and unavoidable.
If you desire a way to help, this is something to which the crew is agreeable after some persuasion. This GoFundMe donation will be shared evenly between these two crew members.
We are grateful for the opportunity to bless these men who have such an impact on so many communities. We are thankful for this platform and the ability to reach many with the hope that small donations go a long way.
