dreaMS for Shelby, HSCT in Puebla for her MS

Donation protected
The fundraiser is over and between GoFundMe and other donations I was able to raise all the funds I needed!  Thank you all for donating!

Shelby is a lifelong resident of Camarillo. She attended Los Primeros and Camarillo High.
She is a wife, a mother to 2 beautiful little boys, a kitty mommy, a crafter, a reader, and a ray of light in this world. She is such a kind, loving, thoughtful, sweet person.
Shelby is dealing with a very serious illness- Multiple Sclerosis.

Many of you may be saying what is MS?
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, unpredictable disease of the central nervous system (CNS), which is made up of the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. It is thought to be an immune-mediated disorder, in which the immune system incorrectly attacks healthy tissue in the CNS.
In multiple sclerosis, damage in the central nervous system (CNS) interferes with the transmission of nerve signals between the brain and spinal cord and other parts of the body.
The cause of MS is still unknown. Scientists believe that a combination of environmental and genetic factors contribute to the risk of developing MS.
The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease.

Shelby has been fighting and dealing with MS since she was 17. She was officially diagnosed at 27, and up until 3 years ago she was handling the flare ups and the lows. And then things started to get rough for her. I will let Shelby tell you in her own words:

"Hello! For those of you may not know me name is Shelby. I am 40 years old, I love to read, spend time with my family, and I am quite the homebody. I am a mother of two funny, intelligent and loving boys who are my life. I am also married to a wonderful husband that takes great care of us all. I have two cute kitties that get crazy zoomies at random times of the day. And I have Multiple Sclerosis.

I had my first exacerbation when I was 17, but wasn't diagnosed until age 27. I was handling the ups and downs of my disease up until about 3 years ago. Over the course of these past 3 years I have gone from being able to do everything on my own to now using a motorized wheelchair and almost always completely dependent on the help of others. My MS has moved on to Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis and I have reached the end of what my doctors can do for me here in the US. I have decided to take control of my health and go to Puebla Mexico June 27-July 28th for a treatment to help halt the progression of my MS so I can be a better mother, a better wife, and an all-around better me!"

As you can see, Shelby remains so postive and so motivated, even when faced with an illness that is progressing rapidly and affecting her life drastically. She is not going to lay down and give up. She is ready to fight this illness and get her quality of life back. Not just for herself, but for her children, husband and family. She is the absolutely most deserving person in every way, and we need your help.
As she said, she has the opportunity to travel to a world renowned clinic in Mexico to receive an extremely successful but still experimental stem cell treatment to slow the progression of MS and help her body regain control and strength. The clinic has a very high success rate and Shelby is a great candidate for this treatment.
This treatment stands a very real chance of giving Shelby her life, mobility, independence and freedom back. This is a huge opportunity for her!
So to anyone that cares about her- we need you!

Being that this treatment is still considered "experimental", it is not covered by insurance. It is also not available in the US. So she will need to travel to a clinic in Mexico to receive this treatment, and she must pay out of pocket. The cost is above what she can pay, but she has so many people that love and care about her, and we are hoping you can help! Any amount you can donate helps. Even $1. If we all help with what we can, if we all share this far and wide, if we all get her story and this fundraiser out there, we can get this done for her!
Camarillo has always been such an amazing and tight knit community, and we are asking our fellow Camarillians, our fellow ACHS graduates, our fellow LPSS Panthers and anyone and everyone else to please come together and help Shelby!

Thank you so much for reading, sharing, donating and supporting Shelby's dreaMS!
