Our beautiful friends are suffering with their family dog. Their poor pup is currently spending 3 days plus, at the Animal hospital in Kent Town and have been quoted $14,000 for his spinal surgery and after care. This surgery is imperative for him to walk and quality of life.
Anything will help, to make this journey slightly easier on them and we need the best care for him aswell as these girls deserve their Marsy back home.
Words from Mar’s Family:
We lost our childhood dog in 2020 and swore we would never get another dog. The heartbreak of losing him was unbearable, and we couldn’t imagine ever going through that pain again.
Then, six months later, the inevitable happened and along came Mars. The most charming, charismatic, friendly boy. The neighbourhood clown and mayor of the park (crowned by fellow dog owners, not us BTW) no dog is too little or too big to be a friend to Mars. Park, play and puppy orientated, he is a constant blur of energy, bouncing around with pure joy.
Earlier this week, we noticed something was wrong. He seemed to have no movement in his back legs, struggling to walk and stand. As we soothed him he began to cry in earnest and we knew then something was very wrong. We took him to our local vet and were immediately told it was neurological and he was admitted to the animal hospital, after X ray and CT scans, it was narrowed down to a spinal injury, surgery was non negotiable.
Nothing prepares you for seeing your animal like that, their big brown eyes searching yours confused about why you’re leaving them behind. Which is why you are compelled to get them the best care available to them.
We would never have imagined writing one these requests but we are quite literally left with no choice. We just want our Marsy boy to receive the best care available to him. Any little contribution will help so much and we will be forever grateful.
Mars still has a long road ahead of him following surgery. He will need rehabilitation to learn how to properly use his back legs again and we still have not received a clear outcome on how functional they will be long term, as the operation on his spine was quite invasive. Right now we are trying to give him time to settle and recover, but the longer he stays under medical care the more expensive it becomes. Of course we never want to rush the process, we just want to be able to focus all of our energy on taking care of our little pal and giving him the best possible chance at recovery.
