My 66yr old aunt Carol was watching TV one evening with her cat Oscar on her lap, the next minute she was waking up in A&E with all our family around her.
She didn’t remember anything at all. She had gone to her bedroom and then collapsed onto her knees falling back onto her legs, smashing her face against the wall and fracturing her shoulder. And was sat there for 2 days! With mobile phone in her hands! She didn’t call anyone for help, she was in a state of delirium, which in my aunts case, presents itself as ‘she is awake but not aware of anything’ she had pneumonia, and sepsis had set in, it was a very dangerous situation for her.
My mother and sister found her, with her legs tucked underneath her. They carefully pulled her legs from under her using her dressing gown cord, and called the paramedics.
She was blue lighted to A&E and
straight into resuscitation. We were told she was going to die. Her organs were shutting
down. We were all devastated!
My mum called the rest of our
family, she even called my aunts
ex husband, my uncle.
We gathered around my aunt, there are no words to describe how we felt at that time. The doctors said that the end of life team were on standby but suddenly, after being unconscious for 2 days, she woke up! Nobody could believe it! The doctors were stunned!
They said no one had survived this in the past.
When I went in the next day she was sitting up!
I said to the doctor, “how is she like that? she was dying yesterday”
He said “Take the win, it’s a miracle”
She was diagnosed with ‘Rhabdomylosis’ she had landed on her legs so hard and was on them for so long, the muscles were crushed. Her ankles on both feet had dropped. There is nothing they can do but wait to see if the muscles will regenerate. This can take a very long time! After a month she was transferred to a rehabilitation centre.
10 months on she is still there. Whilst she was in there her beloved cat Oscar died suddenly. My aunt had not seen him for 7 months. She was heartbroken. She was unable to have children and he was her furbaby. For 10 years he was her constant companion.
She has to use a wheelchair now, this is why I am doing this go fund me, we need to raise the money for an electric wheelchair. There’s a 2 year wait on the NHS and she needs it now. She is such a wonderful aunt. We love her so much.
She has just been told she may never walk again. She’s devastated, but always shows us a smiling face with a positive attitude, Its so important for her to have an electric wheelchair, so that she can have a quality of life. Her life has not been easy, she has an Ileostomy, which was done in an emergency 26 years ago, and many other obstacles along the way. And has always stayed positive.
Thank you so much.
