Life Changes Following Unforeseen Amputation
Donation protected
As anyone who knows Bill Griffith can attest, he has spent a lifetime helping those who needed a hand, whenever and wherever he’s been able to. As a husband, father, or friend, to those he loves and throughout his career that included roles such as Pastor and Law Enforcement Officer, he’s had the opportunity to help people time and time again. In this season, Bill is asking for help as well.
Bill's life changed forever on February 7th when a team of doctors determined that he needed an emergency amputation of his right leg in order to save his life. This first became an emergency when on February 5th during the treatment of a wound on his right foot, his doctor determined that the wound had developed an infection that was rapidly worsening and spreading.
Bill was immediately admitted into the hospital and over the next two days, a team of surgeons treated his rapidly worsening condition and ultimately made the decision to perform the lifesaving amputation. They were determined to save as much of his leg as possible but during the procedure it was determined that the infection had spread severely enough that the amputation was performed above-the-knee.
The procedure went as well as could be expected and several of the doctors and surgeons treating him made it clear to Bill how pleased they were with the speed at which he was able to start recovering from both the procedure and the infection that was killing him.
After spending some time in the ICU and starting the healing process, he was transferred to Siskin Rehabilitation where he is currently undergoing extensive physical therapy. As he heals and hopefully regains some strength lost recently, he's also relearning independence and mobility.
Bill has a long road ahead and there are still many things we don't know and likely won't know for a while. However, we do know that everything will be different and he now has needs that he never knew he would.
In addition to medical bills, the loss of his future income as he is unable to work for the time being, a wheelchair and the litany of newly required mobility tools and equipment he will need, his home will also need extensive renovations to become livable for him.
Life as he knew it is gone, and there are so many unknowns ahead. Bill has a lot of people who love him and have asked if there is anyway they can help during this time. First, we ask that you pray for him as he continues on this road to recovery, and adjusts to this new way of life. Secondly, if you feel lead to give, this money will be used towards the things he needs for his new way of life.
Finally, for those who have already generously given to Bill in any way to support him during this time, we are incredibly grateful for your generosity!
Please feel free to share this with your circle and keep Bill and his family in your prayers.
