Life Beyond the Bullet. Recovery from Gun Violence.
Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and kind strangers,
My world changed forever when my spouse, Jake, became a victim of gun violence. He was shot from behind by a neighbor of ours that was a wanted criminal and has suffered devastating, lifelong injuries. While we are incredibly grateful that he survived, his journey to recovery will be long and filled with challenges.
As a result of the shooting, Jake has permanently lost all feeling in his calf due to nerve damage. He will also live with chronic swelling and thrombosis, requiring ongoing medical care, therapy, and monitoring to prevent further complications. He has no insurance, and the medical bills are already overwhelming. We are facing extensive hospital stays, rehabilitation, medications, and long-term care—all of which come at a tremendous cost.
To be by his side during this critical time, I have had to take leave under FMLA, which has left me without any income. With no financial support and mounting expenses, we are struggling to meet even our basic needs.
We are asking for help to cover:
• Medical expenses, including surgeries, therapy, and rehabilitation
• Medications and ongoing treatment for his thrombosis and swelling
• Daily living costs while I care for him full-time
• Home modifications if needed for his long-term medical needs
• Any legal or additional recovery-related costs
This is the hardest thing we’ve ever faced, but we are holding onto hope and the kindness of those around us. If you can donate, no matter how small, it will make a huge difference in helping us get the care he needs. If you are unable to give, sharing this fundraiser would also mean the world to us.
Thank you for your love, support, and generosity. We appreciate you more than words can express.
With gratitude,
Jan
