Life alterning surgey for Punk

My furbaby, Punk has Laryngeal paralysis. She is 5yrs old. Punk, was born with this as it can be genetic in Huskies. Usually laryngeal paralysis happens to certain breeds when they become older senior dogs.

Laryngeal paralysis is a stressful ailment where the two folds of the larynx (or voice box) do not open and close as the patient breathes in and out. The folds remain closed – paralyzed – and the patient literally suffocates. This can be fixed with “tie back” surgery, which involves placing 2 strands of heavy nylon to open the left side of the larynx.

I don’t have dog insurance for Punk  because, this was a pre-existing condition that would never have been covered if I had paid for insurance when I rescued  her as a puppy.
Over the last five years, I’ve just learned to help Punk manage her breathing -  i’ve taught her to seek water to cool herself down, & I have also, even gone as far as holding her body and helped pump oxygen into her lungs when she  becomes practically cyanotic( her tongue goes purple and she really struggles to breathe).   In the last six months or so, I have  noticed a drastic difference in how she’s managing her breathing. It’s  weakened. When she has short bursts of energy she comes back and really has a hard time catching her breath.  She is  starting to throw up more on regular basis as she is struggling to suck air into her body.  It terrifies me that she’s going to be off leash sometime and not come back because she’s essentially passed out or just lost the ability to get the oxygen she needs.  Of course, now I do leave her on leash  more often than she would like. But, I’ve also noticed that even just hanging out in her backyard and trying to play with her housemate she becomes quite winded.

So, I have a surgery consultation coming up to look into getting Punk the tie back surgery. I’ve been quoted that surgery and recovery cost could be anywhere between $5000 to $8000.   With my girl only been five years old this is of course a costly surgery but it also, could add years and years to her life.
Punk is my first baby, I have two human children of my own. And man, do I love them to bits!! But Punk and I, have been through so much together before all my human loves came into our life.

I’m  reaching out and setting up  this page to ask if are you able to help  with whatever amount you’re able to assist me in the increasing my dog’s quality of life.

Every little bit would touch my heart and help Punk so much!
