When she passed away on June 12, 2025, at the age of 46 following years of treatment for cancer, Evelyn De la Cruz Velez left behind her husband Miguel Nolasco and their five children: Miguel Jr., Laetitia, Annie, Connie, and Zoey Nolasco. Less than two weeks before her death, Evelyn had orchestrated Zoey's 9th birthday party from her hospital room; to honor her mother's wishes, Laetitia celebrated her high school graduation open house just days after losing Evelyn.

Because Evelyn did not have health insurance at the time of her initial cancer diagnosis, this was considered a "pre-existing condition" and she was not able to get any insurance coverage for her years of treatment and hospitalizations. This has left the Nolasco family with truly overwhelming medical debt in addition to funeral costs — all of this on top of the grief that each member of the family is navigating.

Miguel is an incredibly hard worker and doing everything he can for his children. He also knows that he can't do it alone — he has been courageous and humble enough to ask for help.

Cuando falleció el 12 de junio de 2025 a la edad de 46 años después de años de tratamiento contra el cáncer, Evelyn De la Cruz Vélez dejó atrás a su esposo Miguel Nolasco y sus cinco hijos: Miguel Jr., Laetitia, Annie, Connie y Zoey Nolasco. Menos de dos semanas antes de su muerte, Evelyn había orquestado la fiesta de cumpleaños número 9 de Zoey desde su habitación del hospital; para honrar los deseos de su madre, Laetitia celebró su casa abierta de graduación de la escuela secundaria pocos días después de perder a Evelyn.

Debido a que Evelyn no tenía seguro médico en el momento de su diagnóstico inicial de cáncer, esto se consideró una "condición preexistente" y no pudo obtener ninguna cobertura de seguro para sus años de tratamiento y hospitalizaciones. Esto ha dejado a la familia Nolasco con una deuda médica verdaderamente abrumadora, además de los costos del funeral, todo esto además del dolor que cada miembro de la familia está navegando.
